What happens when a mother is forced to keep her child when she was so against having the child that she'd kill it? The child will most likely suffer later. So really, one could make the point that it's the difference between a quick death before the child realizes any fears or true pain or having the baby spend at least 16-18 years in hell because they just simply weren't wanted at all.

The fetus functions on the most basic of instincts and reflexes. Actually not even that. Call it murder or evil or whatever you want, but it's not punishment. Punishment would require some sort of abuse. And I do agree that people shouldn't use abortions in the place of protection, but people are stupid and make mistakes. Punishment for a child is when they have to live in a poor home that couldn't afford a child, but the couple made a mistake.
